The government’s decision to lower the price of internet has gone into effect since today. As per the new directive, bandwidth prices have been slashed to Tk. 625/ Mbps. However, the declined prices are only for Dhaka, Chittagong and Cox’s Bazaar only.
Manowar Hossain, Managing Director of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Ltd. stated “Previously, 1Mbps internet would cost Tk. 1068 but it has been reduced to Tk. 625 now. The new price will be applicable for purchases exceeding 10 GB bandwidth.” He opined that the price cut will increase internet accessibility and will contribute towards realizing a Digital Bangladesh.
This is indeed a good news for regular users as well as entrepreneurs who had often complained about the high internet prices. Since the price of bandwidth has gone down, it can be hoped that ISPs will reduce price at the consumer end.
