BPO Summit 2015 inaugurated


The two day long BPO Summit 2015 was inaugurated today by Sajeeb Wazed Joy, ICT Advisor to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak presided over the opening programme held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka.

The organizers stated that the prime objective of hosting this Summit is to highlight the contribution of the BPO sector in the country’s economy as well as to encourage more youth to work in outsourcing and to provide entrepreneurs a platform for them to be recognized internationally.

In his speech, Sajeeb Wazed Joy stated, “Cuurently, over 25,000 people are employed in BPO and within 2021, we expect over 2 lakh people to be working in this sector. The faster this sector grows, the more the country’s economy will prosper as well.” He further added that the government is working to ensure that by 2021, the BPO sector grows to a market value of $1 billion.

ICT Division and Bangladesh Association of Call Centres and Outsourcing are jointly organizing the Summit.

Santiago Gutierrez, President of World Information Technology Services and Alliances (WITSA), said in his speech “WITSA will help Bangladesh in developing its BPO sector as well the ICT sector.” Adding that the country is poised to become a world leader in IT, he also said that the WITSA summit for 2021 would be held in Bangladesh as a tribute to the country’s 50th year of independence.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, “There are several objectives to hosting the BPO Summit. Primary among these are providing both local and international entrepreneurs a detailed idea about the sector as well as to introduce BPO as a means of income for the young generation.”

Imran Ahmed, Chairman of Permanent Parliamentary Committee on Ministry of Posts, Telecom and ICT, ICT Division Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder, FBCCI President Abdul Matlub Ahmed and BACCO President Ahmadul Haque also spoke at the opening ceremony.

Famous tech personas from both at home and abroad will be speaking in the several sessions that will be held as part of the Summit.

A2i Program under the PM’s Office, Business Promotion Council and Export Promotion Bureau under the Ministry of Commerce are also collaborating as organizers. ADN Group and Genex Infosys are the Gold Sponsors.
