This website can immediately crash your iPhone or Mac’s browser

Be wary of the websites you visit. Someone has created a prank website that will immediately cause your iPhone’s web browser to crash — and it might also require you restart your device.

We first heard about this prank on 9to5Mac. The websiteCrashSafari.com seems to do exactly what it says: If you’re visiting this website via Apple’s web browser on any iPhone, iPad, or Mac computer, your Safari browser will crash and your hardware may need to be restarted.

The prank works by using a small piece of JavaScript inside its code to recall your HTML5 History API thousands of times in a loop, which causes Safari to freeze.

The History API lets websites change the URL of a page without the user needing to refresh the page.

People are linking to this website on Facebook and Twitter to prank their friends into restarting their browser. It’s a harmless bug that won’t do anything to your computer, but it’s annoying and you might lose your tabs.

You can check out the website for yourself here — just be warned, once you see the spinning wheel of death, you’ll probably have to restart your Safari browser.
