Self driving (and parking) cars are no longer a thing of the future. We’ve been seeing a rise in autonomous cars and it’s only a matter of time before we’ll all be riding around in cars that drive themselves. But Nissan isn’t content at only that. The Japanese company wants to make life ‘smart’ in every aspect and hence the latest invention – self-parking chairs!
Yes, you read that right. Nissan posted a video on Sunday on its YouTube page which shows the self parking chairs use a system of wireless signals, ceiling-mounted, motion detecting cameras and a Roomba like circular chassis that have wheels at the bottom of each chair.
The system essentially uses at least four cameras in the room to analyze the 3D space and communicates and informs the chairs about how to navigate the room and place themselves back into position under the desk. Needless to say, it is pretty ingenious.
However, there seems to be no plans by the electronics company to sell these chairs to consumers and that has been confirmedby a Nissan spokesperson. In fact, the reason why Nissan made this move was to actually promote its upcoming autonomous automotive technology, and they seemed to have caught the attention of most with the chairs.
After what we have seen, it wouldn’t be surprising if Nissan actually makes this a commercial product as we can imagine requests for these seemingly haunted chairs will keep increasing by the day.
