Incidents of fraudulence seem to be increasing day by day in the country. After the recent ATM frauds that took place in the city, 5 criminals, including 3 foreigners, were arrested in the country over Facebook fraudulence. RAB members made the arrests on Tuesday night after raiding several locations in the capital.

RAB Media Wing’s Director Mufti Mahmud Khan informed on Wednesday afternoon about the arrest of the 5 individuals, out of whom 2 were Bangladeshis. The other 3 are Nigerian citizens. They would extort money from people on Facebook by luring them with messages of love, winning prizes and several other means.

On the other hand, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has kept 5 foreigners on watch after the ATM fraud that took place. This was informed by the Additional Commissioner of DMP, Monirul Islam.

He said that 4-5 people have been identified, out of whom any one of them is confirmed to have been connected with the crimes. However, it has not yet been determined who that criminal is. Investigation is ongoing to make that confirmation. Since this involves foreigners, without being absolutely sure about who the criminal is, no arrests will be made.

The video footage at the ATM booths show that the person engaging in this crime is white but a clear picture of his face is not visible. It is being assumed that he is a citizen of Eastern Europe.
