Social networking giant Facebook has announced that it will allow any WordPress publisher to publish their article using their Instant Articles platform. That is indeed very good news for publishers of WordPress blogs, who can use the biggest social networking platform from April 12 to garner greater reach for their contents.
The Menlo Park-based social networking site has already collaborated with a few WordPress publishers to test a plug-in that creates Instant Articles, according to sources.
Instant Articles is a feature for use with collaborating news and content publishers that the publisher can choose to use for articles they select. When a publisher selects an article for Instant Articles, people browsing Facebook in its mobile app can see the entire article within Facebook’s app, with formatting very similar to that on the publisher’s website.
Instant Articles launched officially on May 12, 2015. Launch partners included Woven Digital, BuzzFeed, the New York Times, National Geographic, The Atlantic, NBC News, The Guardian, BBC News, Bild, and Spiegel Online.
Automattic, the parent company of WordPress, is set to release the plug-in for free for all current WordPress users. The plug-in will be open source and should be compatible with standard templates. However, for more complex templates the plug-in may have to be extended.
A Facebook spokesperson has said that they welcome members of the WordPress community to come forward and better the open source plugin. Concerted efforts from the WordPress society will go a long a way in “improving the experience,” the spokesperson added.
